The Fall 2016 YA Scavenger Hunt is officially over now. Thank you to all who played and left me comments and entered the contests and most of all, who read our work. See you next time!
Hi, book lovers!
It’s that time again — my favorite time of year. No, not autumn, but YA Scavenger Hunt time!
Welcome to YASH! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!
You’re currently hunting on Team Red!
If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.
SCAVENGER HUNT PUZZLE
Directions: Below, you’ll notice two sections — the first is EXCLUSIVE content from another author on TEAM RED that you can’t get anywhere but right here and the second is a special giveaway I’m doing in addition to the prizes included in the hunt. In that special section, I’ve hidden my favorite number. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the RED team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator!).
Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by Oct. 9th, at midnight Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.
Today, I’m so excited to tell you about the author I’m hosting. Her name is Kat Ellis and she’s fabulous! Kat Ellis is a YA author from North Wales. When she isn’t writing, she spends her time photographing ruins and cemeteries to inspire her creepy stories. PURGE is her third novel, and BREAKER and BLACKFIN SKY are also available now.
Mason and Noah exist in different worlds, but their lives are about to collide.
Mason has a habit of getting into trouble. He’s been kicked out of every place he’s ever lived in. Moving to the cult-like community of Alteria is definitely a last resort, even if it’s better than braving the wastelands outside. But following their strict rules is a hundred times harder when Mason meets Eden, who has a wicked streak to match his own. Caught with contraband, Eden is forced into a programme to purge her bad behaviour. But Mason has seen what happens to people who get purged, and knows he will lose Eden if he can’t help her find a way out.
Out in the wastelands, Noah has no memory of what happened before he was abandoned in a war zone. All he wants is to know who he is, and if he can trust the strangers who rescued him from the rubble.
With lies surrounding them on all sides, Mason and Noah must piece together the truth if they want to escape. Failure is not an option when it means being purged from existence.
For your exclusive YASH bonus content, here are some tracks from my playlist to get you in the PURGE mood!
1. La Roux was huge when I got the first speck of an idea for the story that became PURGE, and when I heard this awesome, eerie remix, it had to go straight on the playlist. It’s also kind of the perfect audio representation of the desolation Noah faces in the wastelands.
2. Being somewhat trouble-prone, K Flay’s FML is an obvious choice to represent the character of Mason. Call it his anthem, if you like.
3. The Prodigy’s Run with the Wolves always runs through my head during one particular chase scene in the book – have a listen, I bet it’ll make your heart beat a little faster!
4. Speaking of hearts beating faster, this remix of Disclosure’s You & Me is so swoony (and the video is also HOT) it’s the perfect song to represent Mason and Eden’s relationship.
5. Faith by Limp Bizkit ties in brilliantly with the last line in the book, so in my imagined-movie-version of PURGE, I’d have this over the end credits. So it rounds off this playlist pretty nicely!
Hi, it’s Patty again! That was so much fun. I have already added PURGE to my reading pile! Don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of books by me (Patty Blount) and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 3. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the TEAM RED and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!
CONTINUE THE HUNT
To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author, LEAH BOBET! If you’re on Twitter, give us a push and click this button to tweet the fun!
But wait, there’s more!!! I’m really excited to host a special giveaway for a brand new YA author, Bill Cameron. Bill has some excellent mystery novels published and PROPERTY OF THE STATE is his YA debut. I love it so much, I provided a cover quote for it. Follow the Rafflecopter instructions for a chance to win a copy!
New to you here. Love this scavenger hunt though I’m finding so many new authors that I’m really excited to read some of there work. Thanks for the giveaway and joining in on this amazing event.
Nope, you’re old news to me (LOL) I own a copy of Some Boys, and I have to say that I just ADORED it. The way you took such a heavy subject matter and crafted such an inspiring story out of it was simply amazing, I remember reading it, and really connecting with Grace, and rooting for her. I remember how proud of was of her fighting spirit (like when she gets up on the chair and starts yelling “you’re welcome” to everyone), and how she never gave up, no matter what was thrown at her, and I thought that was such an inspiration, because if that happened to me, and then everyone turned on me like that on top of it, I would transfer schools, and run away and just die. I don’t think I’d have the will to fight for justice like Grace, so I really admired her character, and I loved Ian too, how he changed and grew, and stood up for her, and helped her. It was such a fantastic story, and it makes it even remarkable considering the subject and how sensitive and tough a subject that is. It was an amazing book, so I’m definitely interested in your further writings! Here’s hoping I win!
I’m a new fan. I love this scavenger hunt. It allows me to discover new authors whose works I haven’t had a chance to read yet including you. Hope to read your books!
Personally, you are a new-to-me author, but just the other day, completely unrelated to YASH I heard a girl in a class that I was observing for one of my education classes gushing over Some Boys. She praised it so highly that I wanted to read it, and now seeing that you are here, taking part in YASH, I am amazed and even more excited to try your work. Thanks for participating.
