Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt!

This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are multiple contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the GREEN TEAM–but there is also a red team, a gold team, an orange team, a blue team, and an indie team for a chance to win a whole different set of signed books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

SCAVENGER HUNT POST

Alyx
Today, I am hosting Alyxandra Harvey on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

Alyxandra Harvey lives in a stone Victorian house in Ontario, Canada with a few resident ghosts who are allowed to stay as long as they keep company manners. She loves medieval dresses, used to be able to recite all of The Lady of Shalott by Tennyson, and has been accused, more than once, of being born in the wrong century. She believes this to be mostly true except for the fact that she really likes running water, women’s rights, and ice cream.

Aside from the ghosts, she also lives with husband and their dogs. She likes chai lattes, tattoos, and books.

Bad girls burn hot…

Red is the color of Kia Alcott’s hair. It’s her temper, which blazes hot and always gets Kia into way too much trouble. And it’s the color of fire. Fires that Kia can start…just by thinking about them. When her latest “episode” gets her kicked out of school, Kia is shipped off to her grandmother, who works for the wealthy Blackwoods. It’s an estate shrouded in secrets, surrounded by rules, and presided over by a family that is far from normal…including the gorgeous and insolent Ethan Blackwood.

Ethan knows far more about the dangers of the forest surrounding the estate than Kia can ever imagine. For this forest has teeth, and Ethan is charged with protecting the outside world from its vicious mysteries. But inside, even the most vibrant shade of red doesn’t stand a chance against the dark secrets of the Blackwood family…

I am delighted to share with you a deleted scene from RED:

“Psst, Kia.” Sloane motioned for me to follow her down the steps. “I want to show you something.” She stopped to glare at my boots. “Don’t make any noise.”

I took exaggeratedly soft steps behind her. She ran her fingers along the iron handrail, whispering. “This is my favourite place in the whole house.”

“Are you kidding? The back stairs? Did you miss the towers? The great hall?”

“Yeah, but no one ever thinks to look for me here. I read Little Women on that step there one Christmas day while everyone else drank egg nog and pretended they liked their presents. ”

“I can see why you’d want to hide,” I muttered.

“Careful around, Ethan,” she added. “Girls always fall for him for some reason. And he always breaks their hearts.”

“Trust me,” I said, remembering the way he’d dismissed me as beneath him. “I’m safe from Ethan Blackwood.”

                “Good.”

“Sloane?” I asked when she led us into the pantry. “What are we doing down here?”

“This has to stay a secret,” She whispered from behind a crates of soaps and scrub pads. She was wedged behind the end of a shelving unit which she’d tugged away from the wall. A small door, about half the size of a regular door, was painted shut.

“Gee, my own hole in the wall,” I said blandly. “’Cause, you know, this whole week hasn’t been weird enough.”

She pushed her hair off her shoulders, looking up at me earnestly. “It’s a secret passageway. The tunnel leads upstairs but if you turn right it will take you out of the castle entirely. You come up near Lorelei.”

                “Who?”

                “The mermaid fountain.”

“And I need to know this why?”

Sloane just pushed the shelving unit back. “No one else knows that’s there. It was painted over ages ago and forgotten about,” she added, not answering my question. She stole a tin of biscotti smiling and looking more like herself. “A snack for the road.”

This isn’t a castle,” I muttered after she’d left. “It’s an insane asylum.”
