5 out of 5 Fence Gates to WRECKLESS by Bria Quinlan

It’s not often a book surprises me but this one did. When I heard the title, I anticipated main characters getting into trouble – lots and lots of it. I expected regret and angst and attempts to undo mistakes.

I’ll say this – I didn’t get what I expected. I got better.

Bria’s Wreckless is a beautifully written story about Bridget Larson, Good Girl. I really loved Bridget, a good girl, a character you wouldn’t be afraid to introduce to your pre-teen. After dealing with a tragedy, Bridget is about to explode – all it’s gonna take is someone to light the match.

The match is lit by boyfriend, Tanner. Or maybe best friend, Leah. You see where we’re heading – Bridget catches them together and that moment, burned onto her brain, forms the catalyst for her night of reckless abandon. She meets Jake Moore. Bad Boy. Or is he?

With a bucket list hastily scribbled on a napkin, Jake insists on accompanying Bridget while she crosses off all the bad girl things she’d secretly wanted to do. Though a few of the things on her list could earn jail time, none are truly depraved, so the story continues in the same sweet style with which it opens.

I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for Jake to attack her, for the police to catch them. But these bad things never happened. Instead, Bridget falls hard for Jake and by the end of the night, realizes she’s more upset with Leah than with Tanner for cheating.

My favorite part in the book is when Bridget confronts Leah. Instead of curling up in a ball with a box of Kleenex, Bridget tells Leah off in a mature and very controlled way. This was so unexpected, I found myself not only cheering, but wishing I could be like her and I’m nowhere near her age *laughs*. It’s a skill I’ve never learned. There’s a line in the scene where Bridget admits she’s always felt fenced in and now, the gate is opened.

So, I give this story 5 out of 5 fence gates. It’s sweet and perfect. Have you read Wreckless? What was your favorite part? Tell me in the comments and then read what my Book Hungry sisters thought.
